Lake Country is the informal name for the northwestern part of Waukesha County, a region known for its large number of lakes. It includes communities such as Oconomowoc, Okauchee Lake, Hartland, Pewaukee, Summit, Delafield, Merton, Nashotah, and Chenequa, and every one of them has its own character and its own trees.
Settled in 1837 and incorporated as a city in 1865, Oconomowoc (18,203 residents in 2020) is built around Oconomowoc Lake, Lac La Belle, and Fowler Lake. Local history records that The Wizard of Oz premiered at the Strand Theatre here on August 12, 1939.
Delafield, along the Bark River, had 7,185 residents in 2020. It was named for Dr. Charles Delafield of Milwaukee and is the hometown of the three Cushing brothers, honored by Cushing Memorial Park.
The Village of Hartland (9,501 residents in 2020) also sits on the Bark River. Nixon Park and the Bark River Greenway are among its green spaces, and several of its buildings, including the Hartland Railroad Depot, are on the National Register of Historic Places.
The City of Pewaukee (15,914 residents in 2020) surrounds the separately incorporated Village of Pewaukee and is home to Pewaukee Lake, the largest lake in the Lake Country region at about five miles long and up to a mile wide.
Okauchee Lake is a census-designated place within the Town of Oconomowoc, and Summit is a village within Waukesha County. Both are part of the Lake Country landscape we serve.
Lakefront and riverside properties come with their own tree-care challenges: access can be tight, slopes and shorelines need protection, and storms can be intense. Our crews plan removals and trimming around docks, boathouses, retaining walls, and waterfront landscaping, using climbing techniques and a 50 ft. bucket truck where access is limited.

Open water and tall trees mean lightning strikes happen. The black locust pictured here was struck by lightning in Lake Country, leaving a damaged trunk and stripped bark. Lightning-damaged trees can have internal injuries that are not obvious, so they should be inspected.
