Brookfield sits in eastern Waukesha County, just west of Milwaukee, and spreads across about 27.7 square miles. It was incorporated on August 14, 1954, when the new city covered roughly 17.5 square miles and counted about 7,900 residents. The 2020 census put the population at 41,464, which makes Brookfield one of the largest communities in the county.
The land has a story of its own. A sub-continental divide passes through the city near Calhoun Road and Capitol Drive, so rain on one side of that line drains toward the Mississippi River basin and rain on the other side drains toward the Great Lakes. The area was first home to the Potawatomi, and the first European-American settler, William Howe, arrived in 1820.
Green space gives Brookfield much of its character. Fox Brook Park, with its beach, and Wirth Park, home of the annual Brookfield Days festival each June, are local favorites, and off-road bike paths wind through many parts of the city. A heron rookery northwest of Capitol Drive and Brookfield Road is a reminder that trees here shelter wildlife as well as people.
If your property borders parkland or a wooded natural area, we plan trimming and removals to protect the trees around the work zone. The city also appears on the Arbor Day Foundation Tree City USA list, with 23 years of recognition as of the 2020 list, and good private tree care helps neighborhoods keep that tradition going.
Every Brookfield yard is a little different, so we start with a look at your trees and build the plan around what they need.

Elms have long lined Wisconsin neighborhoods, and Dutch elm disease can cause flagging, where leaves on individual branches turn yellow or brown and wilt while the rest of the tree still looks healthy. Flagging is a warning sign that deserves a prompt look from an arborist.
Other signs that a Brookfield tree needs attention include sagging or cracked branches, thinning crowns, fungus at the base, and leaves that change color out of season. Our ISA Certified Arborists can complete a tree health risk assessment so you can make an informed choice about treating, trimming, or removing the tree.
For most trees, late winter or early spring before new growth begins works well, and winter work brings extra benefits such as better visibility and frozen ground that protects lawns. Oaks are the exception. The Wisconsin DNR notes that the greatest risk of oak wilt spreading is in April through July, so oak pruning is best scheduled outside that window.

Yes. Removing large trees near homes, garages, and power lines is a specialty of ours. We use a 50 ft. bucket truck, or our crew climbs hard-to-reach trees.
