Who owns the tree matters. The City of Brookfield's Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department manages more than 20,000 trees in rights-of-way, easements, median strips, and parks, and the city says it will only treat or remove trees on public property. A tree standing on your own lot is your responsibility, and that is where we come in.
Brookfield's urban forestry ordinance calls for a written permit from the city tree program manager before anyone plants, removes, sprays, or substantially alters a tree in the public right-of-way. If you are unsure whether a tree sits on your lot or in the right-of-way, we can help you sort that out before any work begins.
The beetle was first confirmed in Brookfield in March 2016 and has since turned up throughout the city. An ash with a thinning crown, split bark, or D-shaped exit holes may be past saving, and dead ash wood turns brittle quickly.
Split trunks, hanging limbs, and uprooted trees are urgent. We make the area safe first, then remove what cannot stay.
Fungus at the base, hollow trunks, and large dead sections are signs that a tree is failing from the inside.
Big trees leaning toward a roof, garage, or power line carry risk every time the wind picks up.
We look at the tree, the surroundings, and the access, then give you a clear, free quote.
Large trees are usually taken down in sections, so we plan where each piece will go before the first cut.
Our crew climbs or works from a 50 ft. bucket truck to lower limbs and trunk sections safely.
We chip the brush and haul away the wood. If you prefer to handle some wood yourself, the city's recycle center accepts brush, wood, and stump grindings. Stump grinding is available too.
Flagging, where leaves on single branches turn yellow or brown and wilt, is a classic warning sign of Dutch elm disease. Once a large share of an elm crown is affected, removal is often the safest choice because dead limbs can drop without warning.
Not every sick tree has to come down, though. If your tree can be saved, we will tell you that too.
A permit is required for trees in the public right-of-way. For a tree on your own lot, check with the City of Brookfield first, especially if it is near the street, a sidewalk, or a utility easement.

Brookfield has history as well as green space. The Elmbrook Historical Society runs the Dousman Stagecoach Inn Museum, a restored 1840s stagecoach inn with period furnishings and artifacts. Visit Brookfield also points to nearby quarries for swimming, family campgrounds, and miles of hiking trails.
